White Elephant
July 21, 2004

How they step around it,
Like there's nothing there at all,
Always seem to startle me,
And trip me to a fall.
It's issue after issue,
And never brought to face.
This secret that they harbor,
Like it's not in our space.
Everybody knows it,
Nobody talks.
Why is this family,
Keeping it behind the locks?
And no one new can find out,
Because everything already shows.
So who they are hiding from,
Nobody knows.
It seems a topic on thin ice,
But not any I can see.
If the secret should step out,
It will fall into the frozen sea.
Yet everyone thinks that is the worst,
That it can get to be.
But how much uglier can it get,
Than to hide from what you see?
