He stands faced to the audience of children
Hands raised, smoke rises, at last with his kindred
Applause and sounds of excitement wail
So loud the sound rises and sets sail
Rebounding of the walls of the happy house
He stands there, face clad with white paint
Green hair, red lips, the ultimate saint
The neurotic grin shines onto the audience
Already mesmerized faces in confluence
Stare at their folly, this joke, this clown
What’s behind the mask?
What’s behind the mask?
Tell me what’s behind the mask!
The same old slapstick routine
Hypnotised no-one dares to intervene
Something so mystical, so powerful
Captures all minds right before the ordeal
Sad jokes never fall flat, laughter never ends
Rubber balloon, flying doves, a pie in the face
Always leaving a lemon washing up liquid taste
Fall over here; fall over there, juggling lives
More laughter after every intricate surprise
A creation so hidden from the world so loved
What’s behind the mask?
What’s behind the mask?
Tell me what’s behind the mask!
…I’ll show you
The face begins to melt with the pride,
Revealing exactly what’s hiding inside,
A face of pure blood red, yellow eyes,
The hands become claws, they start to cry
A shrieking hellish laughter fills the room,
As it swoops, and claws at the children’s faces
Ripping their skin, strangling them with laces
From their own shoes, laughter still continues
Eating the flesh of the young, their youth he’ll use
To strike again, next Friday, 6:00PM
Another birthday to enjoy
Shouldn’t have asked what’s behind the mask…
My little boy

Wow, interesting write. Very good. Dark fantasy. I like it, kind of based in truth though huh? I guess we never know what's behind anybody's mask. Keep this up! |

Well Alec, I must confess......you scared the hibbie jibbies out of me.......I've read your other poems.....and they didn't end like this one did.. Poor little kids you shouldn't have asked what's behind the mask.
This is rather ironic in itself.....for most people now-a-days do wear masks....and they appear to be very kind and when you are aren't looking they tear you apart........This was a great write if you're thinking along these lines!
Poetic hugs
