Childish ties.

Contributed by lostinmyself on Friday, 16th July 2004 @ 07:38:06 AM in AEST
Topic: toughstuff

Do you remember those promises we made to each other?
Little childish ties to be together, happy ever after,
Your voice screaming through my mind "we will always be friends"
Please tell me, why did i believe you back then?

Because now our friendship has fallen to the floor,
And you are stamping upon it as hard as you can,
And you laugh, And i cry,
As you undo all those childish ties, turn our promises into lies.

Do you remember when you came back to me?
After the absence of you had filled me with sorrow,
And we just stared into each others eyes,
And you would wipe away those happy tears that i cried?

And do you remember the way we sat on the field together?
And you said you wished it would last forever,
And you gave me the biggest hug you ever have,
Picked me off of the floor and spun me around,
Until we were both laughing tears in that great way we always had.

(I know you do not like hugging so it was very special)

We even made up nicknames for each other,
'Seanyboy' i called you,
'Philly' you called me,
Can you recall these memories?
I was only 13 so it was okay,
But only we could call each other those names,
But now they also are slipping away.

(Where did it all go?
Where did we go?)

At least you cannot steal the memories...
And i know i will always keep the little things--
--The cigarettes you left in my bag,
The 'special friend' bear, the 'top mate' mug,
The petals from the rose you gave me,
The song from our dance on my 18th birthday,

All the birthday cards, Our pictures,
The necklace you gave me that i adore,
Your deodorant, (you almost seemed to live here)
The reindeer that i always sleep with that you know i always loved,
The special little 'Me-to-you' things,
These will always be here,
So i wonder why it feels i have nothing but tears?

(It hurts)

Please explain it to me,
Why did you do this?

Phil, I am stunned by the enormity of the impact this poem had on me after I read it. I felt angry, sad, mad and a whole lot of other emotions while reading this piece. You've captured the heartache of losing a friend so well, this has become my favorite poem out of all the ones you've posted here so far. Congrats and please keep on writing.

Oh, Phil - I feel just awful to know you're so upset and liking this piece (which I very much do) seems like a horrid contradiction. But...

I love this write! It is so tender and so real and so... you. Anyone that's ever lost someone dear will recognize the feeling that seeps through this piece. It absolutely leaves my heart aching. You took me on a journey, Phil. The way only the best poets can. And... gosh... the little things, the 'me-to-you' things, are suddently enormous.

With a giant *hug*-
SNM
(you know how to get me if you need me!)

Wow, Phil. This is incredibly sad. Also extremely well-written. I'm glad you can express your sorrow this way.

Keep your hope up, my friend. Such a special friendship cannot be lightly thrown aside.
Blessings and prayers for you.

I hope he comes back too but as friendships go when they are done they move on. I am your friend though I know it won't be the same.

I don't feel all that much 'anger'...more sadness and regret from losing someone who meant everything to you. Hold on to the happy memories...remember, new memories will be made! Keep writing- it feels better.

Aw Phil, this was something I could truly and honestly relate to. I've had great friendships crashing to the floor and to this moment I still dont know the reason for it falling apart. I admire the way you poured out your heart and tears into this piece. I was really touched by it. The hurt you potrayed just cried out to me. This is amazing, very honest and very refreshingly human. Great write and I hope you geth through this anguish.
