No Place For A Christmas Tree

Contributed by ravenshadows on Thursday, 15th July 2004 @ 01:55:39 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

Mama says Santa will come
Like all of the years before
To visit the good girls and boys
Who remembered to do all of their chores?
Mama says that for Christmas
He will bring us food and toys
But where is our chimney
How will he get to me?
Mama says we don't need a chimney
And not to fill my heart with greed
Especially when it comes to Santa
God makes sure no one is left in need
Not to be ungrateful, It’s a question not a plea
But where mama, I ask, Is our Christmas tree?
The spark that was in her eye
With sadness grew to gray
Then I watched as she got on her knees
Watching her tears I listened to her pray
I have fought and struggled hard
I have tried not to go astray
I’ve tried to make her understand
I’ve prayed and I have begged
Showing her we should be grateful
We have somewhere to lay down our heads
But how can you tell a child, dear Lord
So innocent and so sweet
There’s no place for a Christmas tree
When you’re living on the street
