Lonely Old Man

Contributed by pixie on Tuesday, 13th July 2004 @ 05:36:42 AM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

There was a weak old man,
And his name was Stan,
He lived deep in the woods,
At the window he lonely stood.

Night after night,
Staring at the moon so bright,
Longing for someone to share life,
Years ago he lost his beloved wife.

She was stolen away,
He misses her every day,
In his mind he thinks she’ll return,
Although he holds onto her urn.

He sees her in his sleep,
But she’s never for keeps,
She vanishes as he awakens,
His vision leaves him shaken.

No longer does he want to live,
He has nothing in life to give,
All he wants is to be with his love,
So he prays to the lord above.

That he’ll put them together again,
Release his old heart from the pain,
His wife was his only true friend,
They planned to take it to the end.

But her end came before his did,
He couldn’t accept it & close the lid,
Hanging onto memories past,
He hopes his death comes thick & fast.

I see it in the news frequently; a husband or wife dies
and shortly after the life partner will slip away fast.

I think it is possible to will yourself to live past when you
would normally go, and conversely, to will yourself to let go.

There are still many mysteries to be explored in the human
psyche.

Hi Pixie, it's George;
Oh how you write so wonderfully. When you write I feel. I feel what your poems are supposed to project according to your intentions. Thanks again for all of your kind comments on my poetry. Would you kindly comment on my last poem. I would like to know what you think.
Thanks
