Hanging on to reason

Contributed by Ami_and_me on Friday, 25th October 2002 @ 11:45:00 AM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

Hanging on to reason,
By the tail feathers of doubt,
Peering down the drop,
Into the inside-out.
My feet; already falling,
My body; far behind,
Searching for the answer
That I don’t expect to find.
Something in my skull
Is chewing on my brain,
‘Tastes quite good with ketchup,
And a sprinkling of pain’.
In my arms they’re crawling,
Right beneath my skin,
Wriggling like worms
When you prod them with a pin.
Down – I see the bottom,
Up I see the sky,
‘Mummy, daddy, save me,
I don’t want to die’.
I think my doubt-bird’s flying
For the fall is very long,
Not that I’m complaining,
It just seems rather wrong.
Spitting out the chewing gum,
(I’ve been chewing that all year),
Look; if we go fast enough,
It’ll fly back past my ear.
What if I could let go,
But I think my nails are glued
They’ve been digging in so long
That they’ll need to be removed.
Hanging on to reason,
By the tail feathers of doubt,
Peering down the drop,
Into the inside-out.
