Me......The Outsider

Contributed by pixie on Sunday, 11th July 2004 @ 02:11:52 PM in AEST
Topic: selfstruggles

I was classed as weird & strange,
Because my reality was out of range,
I felt the need to drink & cut,
Keeping my doors welded shut.

I didn’t follow everyone else’s lead,
I had problems I was my own breed,
Let my temper get the better of me,
Set my emotions wild & free.

They say that mud does stick,
No-one knows what makes me tick,
They couldn’t see past my thick skin,
But it was Mark who was brave & looked in.

I lashed out as a way of self defence,
Spoke in riddles & didn’t make sense,
I desperately needed a real friend,
One who could help me back on the mend.

All I wanted was to not be judged,
As that way my barrier wouldn’t budge,
Mark saved me from total self destruction.
He used his heart he had no instruction.

Even my own family said I wasn’t normal,
They didn’t understand my inner turmoil,
I felt like I was alone in this world,
A scared, abnormal & freaky young girl.

A lovely poem - sounds lucky you (or the protagonist) had someone around you who understood what you were going through.

Very cool...one right after another I've read today. I can't seem to stop.

Reading your poetry you don't seem like that today. It is often good to take a sober look at ourselves to see where we have grown and you have done an amirable job of that for yourself in this very inspirational poem.

Here's some feelings I only know too well. I was never part of the popular group in school and as you know, outsiders were always known as the weird ones or the freaks. But I'm glad I didnt conform into their rigid lines, I made it being myself. I'm glad you held on to your personality no matter what other people said. You are your own person, and you shouldnt be sorry that you are.
