The End of the Affair

Contributed by overstated on Sunday, 11th July 2004 @ 01:42:25 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

Silky stars melting in the background
This red car’s been running for too long without petrol
The trees have been peeling from the sides

As the wheels spin forwards
The driver looks back

The dark blue light inside the cherry vehicle
Is subverted by the brash headlights
Dashboard tears and a woman talking on the radio
About her fears

Moths hug the outside lights
Feeding on the energy of the night

The car bounces on down a hill
Everywhere’s empty or asleep
Except this crimson combat car
As it races on like a ship
That ignores a lighthouse
Like a bull gaining speed
A target to hit and a red mist to feed

The car rages on into a cushion of trees
Into its destiny it has its reasons

As it splashes in flames
The scarlet car turns to a ginger scar
Bounded beyond control
Just like the man who flew into the sky
Too damaged to stay
Too damaged to just cry

The man flew a mile high
As he ended the affair
Putting a hole into his lovers heart
As he flies he whispers ‘now we can never be apart…’

Metaphore colour and light. Bravo. This is the stuff of poetry. I really liked this line "The scarlet car turns to a ginger scar" It kinda has a Romeo and Juliet feel sorta.
