war

The unmistakable smell of gunpowder rises up in the air,
The children who live near your house are running away,
You’re coming home after school with your schoolbag strapped around you,
They think you’re a suicide bomber too, but then, who’s to say?
You clamour into your empty home hoping someone will hear,
You know that once you find your family, you can get through,
‘Mother! Father! Where have you all gone?’
Nay, they’ve all fled the village; they’ve runaway without you
Clinging to your silly old schoolbag, for ‘tis all that you’ve now got,
You stumble amidst the rubble of the clash,
‘Oh! Why is this war back to the state it once was?’
‘tis what you think as you stare at the smoke and ash
