DAD, ME, SON.

Contributed by dunk on Sunday, 11th July 2004 @ 04:27:46 AM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

The world is getting smaller, as im getting older faster.

I used to hang on to your words, as they lept out and grabbed me.
I would secretly repeat them, even using your accent.
so the people id talk to, would feel like me, when i heard you.
a working class hero? you were up there with lennon!

then i got to a stage, where my life had to grow,
i can see contradictions, this story has holes!
like the bible, its written with a 'get out of jail card'
if you say 'hey thats wrong' they say
its ok, have faith!

nah, im not gonna have that,
what you taught me was wrong,
there is no way im hating
my country, no way.
an unbiased view is what a child deserves
i despise religion, but my son comes first
what if he wants to be a vicar, sounds crazy i know,
but if i start being biased, that option will go.
so i say to my son, i dont think theres a god,
but i may be wrong, l have been before!

i sometimes wish, i had myself as a dad,
then like a left hook it hits me.....
..i always have.

This is an awesome poem, It's okay to hate religion; I hope you don't hate God. I left my church this year because of hurt and disagreements that I have with them. I'm going back because I love God and I have faith that he will work things out.

Children definitley need the option to form their own beliefs and destination in life without being molded into a certain non-viable person from a young age. Teach them to explore all of life and accept other than their own views. Excellent words and thought. Excellent poem.
