Heaven's Standard

Contributed by fionndruinne on Saturday, 10th July 2004 @ 09:33:42 PM in AEST
Topic: InspirationalPoems

There is a time when day is waning
When sunlight fades and stars are dawning
When we put by the sword and look to the sky
And dreams forgotten for a time
Come crowding into a quieted mind.

Then loneliness like a blade comes calling
And the laughter of the day starts falling
The starlight tells us we are still alone
And the silence that was peace is not
For it has become a void to fill.

And when the inner eye starts flying
Across wide seas and mountains, crying
The heart beats harder for the yearning
O for Ulysses’ arduous voyage
If True Love might be the end of it!

And the lonely heart is here believing
If I had love I would not be grieving
Heeding not a message from beyond:
The warrior yearns to war no more
But not until the fight is won.

For not til earthly loves are dying
And Heaven’s standard full is flying
And the heart is whole in holy Flame
Will Love come True and soul-fulfilling
“And all these things will be added thee”.

Andrew, this was written with wisdom, maturity and experience.
I too was lifted by the poem. I could see myself reflected within the lines ' And the lonely heart is here believing, If I had love I would not be grieving'.
Great write and really unforgettable.

Oh, I do so love the output of a quieted mind's pondering. This is beautiful, Andrew! You took a walk down a lovely path here and I am quite delighted that you shared some of it with us! And, might I add, you did so with exceptional grace!

I wish for you all that you dream of here,
SNM

Oh Andrew what a delight.......'tis you the mighty poet that knows all souls and what how they yearn.......especially for love, companionship and dream as you so eloquently put:
That if we just have love......everything would be rosy again!
Marvelous observation of the human soul....
feelings that take their toll.
Loved it

What beauty and depth!

'And when the inner eye starts flying
Across wide seas and mountains, crying...'
Wonderful.

The warrior yearns to war no more
But not until the fight is won.
I must say this again- such depth.

What you have expressed here is so true.
Especially the way the last words sum it all.
There's no love as the extravagant love God has for us. Nothing else can fulfill our spirit's deepest hunger - that cries out only for the divine light and life that is in Him.

This is so softly elegant. Graceful and worded like precious silk.

I could relate to this poem. Probably we all could at some point. I don't look for love anymore. There was a time that i did but i've filled my life with other things.

Sometimes poetry has a way of triggering thoughts we never really think on.

This poem was very high standard and professionally written.

Andrew, you've got such a grip on it all. I mean, you've really figured it out... so well that you wrote something this beautiful, something that reminds me of the kind of poetry people like to sit around reciting.
Lots of love and peace be with you,

Chelsea

It's just me again. I had to re-comment because this is my favorite poem by you. It is truly a work at a higher standard. I am going to print this out, and add to my collection of favorites from the site.

Blessed you really are for someone gave you the gift we all call poetry.

Beautiful display of what you've been teaching me about love for the past months. Deprivation is good. You've been teaching me that. I wish more people weren't so relient on love, so that they might be able to embrace true love, the kind of love you understand and speak of. Well, I'm thoroughly amazed. Nicely done, my friend. Deep and profound, and I liked the quote at the end. Nice touch.

Thank you Andrew, this is a delightful read, it really shares with the heart, gives a sense of there is more, that there is hope beyond. We fight each day like crabs trying to get out of a bucket, and when one gets just over the top and ready to drop, another crabs pulls it back in. And then there is the frog in the well...

Your poem will keep my promise that I will not let myself go deep inside, that I will come out and shine like the stars, and when I feel there is no more hope, I will come running to read this poem, for what you have written here is true love, and you have it...

I have had a bunch of money on several occasions, and when I went to spend it, I could not find what I needed, because it was not there. And when I am broke, its there.. and then there is time, and there is money, and the two never seem to give enough of theirselves, because when you have the money, you don't have time to spend it, at least I didn't working so many hours. Now I am retired, too much time, and not enough money lol.

Still, both are present.. must wait for that special opportunity, when they will join one another... same for love, its all around us.. and in us. sometimes it is hard to share it, when there is no one to share it with.. again, there will come a time when two will unite. I love the last stanza, it enlightened me, and warmed me, knowing, one day, the ultimate of all love is right there, just waiting in heaven..
