Our Children's Tears

We get caught up in our lives
and sometimes tend to forget,
to give thanks for all that we have,
and that can lead to regret.
We take all we have for granted,
assume it will always be there;
We run from day to day
act as though we don't care.
In search of fame and fortune,
and all those material things;
pushing aside our children,
as again, the telephone rings.
Another late night meeting,
another business trip;
and through the cracks again
another child does slip.
Over in the corner
the words that no one hears,
"What have I done wrong?"
a child cries through the tears.
"Why don't they have time for me?"
they whisper in the night;
Our children drift off in tears;
what a sad, and pitiful sight.
When will we open our eyes
and finally see the light?
When will we wake up
and finally make it right?
