Forgive me, my light one,
I do not know this path;
I fear the dark is beckoning
And weaker shall I last.
To live in cornered shadows;
To feel the mistened lights
That warn me, death is looming near,
Betwixt the shadowed nights.
The nighttime is a temptress,
I know her scent too well –
That fatal drawn seduction
Whose depths I cannot tell.
She comforts me, and draws me close,
So darker so I find
The world around me, beaten in
To cluster in my mind.
I did not seek this shelter,
I did not seek to rule.
Her it was, forsaken me –
Once tempted, twice a fool.
I must repel her clutches for
She dizzies me with love;
For nighttime is a temptress,
And I, a strangled dove.

Wow, this is impressive. Such strong rhythm, lustrous rhymes...and a dark message delivered with both flair and depth. I'm glad to have read this, as it's a polished piece of great poetry.
