Sure tis a lovely wake, says Mrs Donnelly,
I, tis that says Mrs O'Neil, taking a bite of cake,
He wus a lovely man, swept away in the prime of his life,
I heard he'd a bit of a fondness fur the brandy,
I'd heard that too, but he wasn't nasty in his cups
As some of them are, you know...
And how did he die?
I have it from Nelly Duffy who's a friend of the family
That he tripped on one of the throw rugs his wife put down
To protect the carpet, and he slammed into a wall head first
And snapped his bloody neck like a toothpick,
...whata croyin' shame...
...aw but don't her carpets look grand!...
