"COMPASSION WINS!"
Seattle Special Olympics had everyone standing!
Excitement of the moment left nine contestants revving.
Starting gun sounds the "take-off" alarm......they jump!
All nine physically and mentally disabled, not one slump!
Hundred-yard dash is launched as they all start out!
Not exactly fast, but with a relish to race and win no doubt!
Except one little boy who stumbled and fell facedown!
He tumbled over twice, and began to cry, what a let-down!
Eight others heard the boy cry, and slowed down.
Each looked back, trying to locate him with a frown.....
Then, every one of them turned around and went back!
Race forgotten now, they all went to the side of the track.
One girl with Down's Syndrome bent down over
him as his booster.
She very kindly said, "A kiss will make it feel better!"
Unbelieving eyes in the stands watched wondering how?
All nine linked arms and walked together, lovingly now.
Several minutes passed as the people stood cheering.
This moment will never be forgotten, 'twas too endearing!
Selfish is our world, fierce competition, thoughts
of another, no regard.
These loving, kind, compassion people are
labeled as "Retards!"
Linking our arms together, supporting another is divine!
Not winning the race, but helping someone
else to the finish line.
Winning, just for ourselves, makes winning unimportant.
Compassion wins all races when we show
mercy without judgment!

Teach me to feel another's woe.
To hide the fault I see.
That mercy I to others show.
That mercy show to me.

This write has me in tears. What a beautiful write. I remember hearing about this awhile back. If only all had as much compassion. Thanks for the reminder.

And God made the Angels, different from man, and compassion and mercy and love was their grace, and to man he let name all that he could, and not understanding man laughed and called names....and God made the Angels with compassion and grace.
I missed your beautiful art, thank you so very much for this.

Ignorance may call them 'retards' but I call these beautiful children 'God's special angels." They hold more love and compassion in one little finger than we feel in a lifetime. They are truly amazing.
My love to you,

I loved this poem.It is simply amazing. If we saw the world with such a mind as theirs,we would all live in happiness.
Love and peace are well and fine,
But a humble heart is more devine.
