The clay faces of doll have drawn smiles.
Underneath, the tears fall in torrents
Our masks only let us see so far;
Yet, they are almost impossible to remove
What would we find if the facades were taken away?
Would we like what we discover?
Or would we shrink back in horror?
Truth is more important than comfort or beauty
We are not yet ready to accept our fate.

Yes we *care* what other people think and when the world treated many of us harshly as children when we used to show our feelings, it is only natural that we should hide them as adults. Although there is nothing ugly about tears - tears show emotion and emotionless people are ugly. |

This is an interesting read...I think it would have been a stronger poem with "I" instead of "we."--Self revelation seems somehow more personal and meaningful than projection revelations. |
