I Remember

I drove to the spot
where we always used to meet.
It brought back so many memories
that I didn't want to see.
I remember bragging about you to my friends.
I remember our first kiss under a full moon.
But most of all I remember...
My mistake,
to turn and walk away.
My loss,
to turn my back on you and walk out of your life,
that I made you walk out of mine.
I shed some tears and started home, so far away,
but they silently kept coming.
I tried to brush them away but they soaked my sleeve.
I couldn't get you out of my mind.
Through the tears I saw times when we were together
and we were happy.
But most of all I remember...
My mistake,
to turn and walk away.
My loss,
to turn my back on you and walk out of your life,
that I made you walk out of mine.
My mistake,
to turn and walk away.
My loss,
to turn my back on you and walk out of your life,
that I locked you out of mine.
That I locked you out of mine...

Oh! gosh... I get this. A few of my recent pieces are filled with the same.... the wretched consideration that you've lost someone because... well, you know. It does hurt. I completely emphasize. I cannot offer any answers... for I've not found them myself.
This piece is beautifully honest and tragically relatable, I'm afraid. Well done!
