A Day In The Park

A Day In The Park
Needing the warmth of the sun to brighten my spirits I decided to take a walk and view that which my heart needed to see....nature in all it's glory. Budding trees and sprouting flowers, grass showing the pale shade of early spring. Little critters with the urge to re-produce their own kind and the sound of birds.....melodious as only they know how.
Resting on a bench nearby I watched other's as the warm day brought out couples and children....a relaxing day, and then I saw them.........
Their walk was slow and deliberate, but my eyes wandered to the faces of this couple. Age was not something easy to determine, but the glow on their faces was as if they had met for the first time. Holding hands I noticed that they were only aware of each other, not the way young lover's are...this was much deeper.
I stayed sitting and watched as they came closer, noticing the sparkle in their eyes, and though not speaking... I could almost hear their thoughts. He slipped his arm around her waist, never getting out of step, she leaned into his shoulder....contentment was clearly visible on the face of this lovely lady.
A slight breeze stirred and a wisp of hair found it's way across her brow, he gently...with hands yet strong, returned it to where it had lain before. This truly was a scene out of a romanic story.
Then as if by some magic they stopped for a second, he leaned to her face.....I couldn't take my eyes off them. He spoke something and I saw her reply, I wished that I could have heard, but realizing that this was a private moment in a very public place, I turned away and let them share it only between them.
Then all too soon they passed, not aware of me sitting there....not caring about anything except each other. As I watched them from the distance I now felt sadness....they like my dreams vanished around the bend leaving only the memory of what I had witnessed.
But my heart was warmed, my thoughts reflective...my senses renewed and I knew I saw much more than a couple taking an afternoon walk. I had witnessed love and companionship...romance and caring.
What a lovely day it had been.
