Thru the Perilous Fight

Contributed by Calista on Monday, 5th July 2004 @ 03:13:50 AM in AEST
Topic: war

He woke to the sunlight,
As every morning past.
Not knowing the terrors,
Not feeling the blasts.
By noon he was eating,
The barbeque lunch,
Not seeing the horrors,
Not feeling much.
The flag waved in the breeze,
Showing pride with it’s ease.
The bright red, white, and blue,
Alone with it’s grace,
Draws a smile to his face.

He woke to the noises,
As every morning past.
His body aching already,
From dodging the blasts.
By noon he was walking,
In gear twice his weight,
Listening to moans,
And feeling the hate.
A flag strapped to the back,
Of a fellow soldier’s pack,
The dulled red, dirty white, and torn blue,
Alone with disgrace,
Brings pity to his face.

Into the sky he gazed at night,
And watched the dark fill up with light.
Bright pinks, shining gold.
The rocket’s red glare,
Shooting into the air.
Fireworks for the young, for the old.
A blast that shook inside his heart,
The lights and gasps,
So near, so apart…
Into the sky he looked at night,
And watched the dark fill up with light.
Bright orange, deep red.
Another reason to be scared,
The bombs bursting in air.
Explosions killing the young, the old.
A blast that shook inside his heart,
The fire and disaster,
So near, so apart…

Night fell, so dark…
In the battlefield,
In the park.
Both men,
So far,
Same age,
Just kids.
One soldier,
One student,
Countries apart.
With pride on the fourth,
With justice so forced.
Both men,
So near,
Both kids,
Apart,
O'er the land of the free,
And the home of the brave?
Where is the spirit, the pride,
For the lives that we lose, for the lives that we save?

This is an awesome contrast of the life on the battle field and the life of a student watching fireworks. Great job
