Sufferer

Contributed by Butterat_Zool on Monday, 5th July 2004 @ 01:34:10 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Here’s my superpower.
It’s nothing especially unique...
I got it through suffering,
and not that bullcrap heartbreak suffering either.
I have known distrust and fear
to such a great extent
that I would not even let myself
be my friend.
I have loathed myself for things I have done
while doing them
and without stopping.
And as my reward
for sinking my soul
into a realm genuinely devoid
of hope or security,
something happened to my eyes.
Because of my misery,
I now have the ability to look
into other’s hearts and sort through
thoughts that even their subconscious
is deaf to, and in those hearts,
where I find the same true suffering
and knowledge of evil and defeat
that I have seen, another thing shines through
and speaks only to my supercharged retinas,
and that thing is joy.
Joy exists there to an extent that
taking life for granted can’t afford.
The joy of having overcome
and having survived,
and the joy of appreciating and cherishing
your friends, your moments of happiness,
and the knowledge that your journey
was not taken alone, is so great a part of these people
that it shines through brilliantly
and screams to my heart “Yes! I am your friend,
for like you, good warrior,
I have fought the devil and won!
And now, Sufferer, it is my honor
to call you Brother.”

Very nicely said! I fully emote with this write, as there are sometimes that I do things that I hate as I'm doing them. Keep writing on and I'll keep reading them! Peace to you.
