Bad Cop

Contributed by POOBEAR on Tuesday, 16th July 2002 @ 10:13:12 AM in AEST
Topic: news

Every day I am sickened and confused by what
I read and see in the news, get angry but I
try not to let it show.
But an image lingers in my mind and hard as I try
I just can't let it go.
I see a young boy, lifeless as a rag doll slammed
down face first onto a car and then he is just as
brutally punched in the face.
His hands have been securely shackled behind him the entire time, his only crime being African
American is clearly once again the case.
The reporter who says the officer is seen "roughing up" the boy must be paraphrasing, and doing a bad job of it in my eyes.
Well I too would like to paraphrase because I think the term "assault and battery" is the one that better applies.
Justice is not legally blind and I suspect every once in a while she lifts that blindfold up enough to sneak a little peek.
Anyway, that's just my opinion for what it's worth
and thanks for allowing my mind to speak.

I wish more of this collection of so-called humanity had the guts to speak freely about such disgusting atrosities, then maybe the blind eye may stay open!
Well written POOBEAR

Amen!!!
Too bad so many people attracted to the profession aren't dreaming of protecting and serving, but only of POWER.

This poem does a good job of descrbing the incident and expressing the poet's outrage.

My only criticism is the cliche "securely shackled"...It strikes a wrong note to my ear ...

There is nothing like strong emotion to inspire a strong poem!

Well done!
