The Phonecall

Topic: Grief

The Phonecall...
Hi ya babe,I'm running late
Yeah,I'm phoning from the cell
Stuck in this city's madness
Still I've good news to tell

How was your day,did you get my note
I left it by your keys
Just wanted to remind you
How much you mean to me

I went to see the doctor
In my lunch hour break
Yes Im fine,don't worry
It's sweet,the fuss you make

Have I mentioned that I love you
Yes,I say it all the time
But today I feel it even more
So happy you are mine

Well,listen babe,it's raining
And the traffics quite a mess
I should be home in an hour
Thirty minutes at its best

Oh you've cooked our dinner??
Sweetheart that's really great
And while we are eating
I'll fill you in on my lunch date

Ok babe,bye for now
See you in a while
Lotsa kisses,teddy hugs
And a great big happy smile

Excuse me sir,do you own
A blue and silver sedan
Well,I'm afraid I have bad news
I'll explain the best I can

You see sir,in the rain tonight
It's understood and known
A drunk driver hit your wife head on
Sir,she won't be coming home

Please sir,yes I'm sorry
But you'll have to come downtown
To identify her body
And collect her things we found

Im sorry for your loss sir
This must be hard for you
A drunken driver takes the lives
Of your wife,and baby too

I apologise,excuse me sir
I thought you were aware
There's confirmation of pregnancy
In the autopsy report there

Hi ya babe,yeah it's me
I'm calling from heavens door
I just called to say we love you
But wont be coming home no more

Have I mentioned that I love you
Yes,I say it all the time
But today I feel it even more
As I hold our baby, yours and mine

Ok babe,bye for now
We'll see you in a while
Lotsa kisses,teddy hugs
And a great big happy smile....

Wow. This one made me cry. My brother-in-law was killed by a drunk driver. Very good, show people the worst so they can do the best.....

This is so good.....and so sad. I love to read poetry with a point, a true message that comes across so blatantly and gracefully at the same time.
Thanks for sharing......

This is a good example of why I don't like to watch the news. Life can be so horribly tragic at times... and I'm often struck by how casually tragic news is shared and heard... I find comfort in knowing that at least one person was moved enough to write something so touching. You've impressed me in more ways than one.

Beautiful and incredibly thoughtful of you,
SNM
