if love were stocks

i would buy and sell
all day.
i would trade until morning.
my tie would never come off,
and my pants would be
the perfect length.
i would never wear a ribbon
in my black hat,
and i would never call anyone “sir”.

If love were stocks,
i would be rich.
the bank would call me every friday
and thank me for my business.
