My Shoebox

Contributed by pixie on Wednesday, 30th June 2004 @ 12:47:18 PM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

There I lay inside my cardboard crib,
With my rattle & my bib,
Just waiting for someone to come along,
Take me home & make me finally belong.

I looked up at you & smiled,
Knowing deep down I’d soon be your child,
That by tonight I’d have a home,
No more would I be sad & alone

You picked me over all the others,
I had found a loving Father & Mother,
You walked around & chose me,
Said I was the cutest baby you ever did see.

You told me that I was special,
That your love wasn’t superficial,
I’d be yours forever & ever,
That we’d remain a family together.

I’m glad you took me home with you,
Without you both, what would I do?
Bless you for picking me up off the rocks,
Thank you for taking me from my shoebox.

This is a beautiful poem of emotions I have never felt. But my heart goes out and feels how beautiful people can be. This is great. God bless you.

My "dad" adopted me when I was in 7th grade. See, my mom has been married 3 times. 2nd one was my biological father. 3rd one is for keeps. :-D So I kind of relate, in a distant way.
Lots of love and peace be with you,
Chelsea

The little shoebox baby. Children can be so funny. My eldest son believed for years he was adopted because his father and I both have dark hair and dark eyes and so does his younger brother. He is blonde headed and blue eyed and thought that gave him reason to believe he was adopted, LOLOLO.
We showed him birth certificate, picture of me preggers and everything. He would not accept that is wasn't till he met several of my distanf family who have the strong Nordic features and coloration and finally believed he was truly ours. Children can be so odd sometimes.
