insomniac
|
Laying in my bed awake to the sounds of unknown creatures.
Staring into darkness I feel my heart is beating.
Boom, boom, boom in my fragile chest.
What seeds does my mind plant within me,
Fear throughout all my veins.
Hands clenched at my sides are shaking.
But now my whole body’s shaking in my terror.
What am I really scared of?
I try to over come my fright with rational thought.
I am still too fearful to turn over.
Oh why does the morning light not come sooner?
Driving away horrors with comforting light.
Will I stay in fear forever?
Yes; it seems that way tonight.

I'm not sure if horror comes after terror. It probably does, but I'm being confused by the larger global conflict.
Terror comes after terror in that respect, within its endlessly vicious cycle.
Anyway - i digress. Your poem is basic in its description, and I can't really relate to a groundless panic attack, because I don't get them, but I'm sure many people would, were you to describe its onset with a greater sense of tension.
Keep writing. |
