Take a Trip

Take a trip to the other side
Pull the top back
I like the wind in my hair
We're travelling south
And I feel no fear
I'm a little girl lost
Inside this adult skin
Following wide-eyed
Into that great big distance
But let's pretend
I'm the woman of your dreams
And drive on
I can act like I am
If you'd like
The innocence in me
Will catch us
Where we land
Sand between our toes
Or dirt in our faces
You're worth not knowing
The destination for
I'll take this where it goes
When you take my hand
I'm yours
I'm not grown yet
Inside this outward personna
Of a woman worn and weary
Of life's open road
Still I don't think you know or care
You carry on into the night
Unaware
Of how my heart bleeds and weeps
With a childish aching need
You just wrap me warm
In your arms as we pull in
I say
This is a journey I was not prepared for
In truth
In a wisdom
Beyond all years
This path untaken before
A giant leap in my faith
But I wandered in
And you embraced
All lack of experience
And so
We hit the road
Together
Wherever
Take a trip to the other side
Of me and you
Travel towards us
From the girl in me
To the woman I could be
And you might love.

lovely write. I am at that place too, suspended between childhood and womanhood, and I love the analogy to it being a trip. And yes, love is quite a journey too. Nice job.

This is incredible. So glad I came over here to catch up on some of your writes. Oh, how I can relate to this. I woke up this morning feeling like the little girl in me was waking up again and this plays right into that. How to balance the creativity and openness of this inner child with the sensitivity that leads to such incredible hurt. Love this exploration of that place!
