I waited for you
That Saturday night
You didn't come home
You had got in a fight
I got a call from the police
You were in bad health
So, I ran to the station
It was like I started to melt
When I got there
I saw your bruised face
I started to cry
and my heart began to race
So, you held my hand
Although you were the one in pain
And as I thought of that
I was filled with shame
I told you I was sorry
For not grabbing your hand
But my mind was in a rush
I just didn't understand
This thing just happened
The thought I can't bare
Because now you lay there
Helpless

Apart from the 'health' and 'melt' rhyme, I thought this poem was thoroughly involving and, or course, tragic.
I've been in a few fights before and this poem drove home the needless pain engendered in others by provocation.
Good write. Keep writing. |
