Remembrance from a Love Past

Contributed by princess_babygurl on Monday, 28th June 2004 @ 07:46:10 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

I remember tears welling up in my eyes
When I found out you had to go
There was no choice for you
Just a wave of a hand
And a paper with orders
Sent you on your merry way

You didn’t tell me at first
I suppose it was to protect me
You were always chivalrous like that
I wish you woulda told me sooner
Than a couple of weeks before you left
But it’s okay
I’m glad I got the time I spent with you

You dressed up in your uniform
To tell everyone goodbye
How handsome you looked
Standing tall with your shiny boots
And the clank of your dog tags
As you walked along
Fearless to the untrained eye
But I see through it all

I still remember the sad goodbye at the airport
How I tried so hard not to cry
I was strong until you left
The journey back home was a blur
I barley remember the tears I shed
The empty void in my heart
Where you used to be
Was stronger than it had ever been that day

I thought about the night before
How we stayed up all night
Talking and making plans for the future
Which ended with you on bended knee
And a smile on your face
When you told me that you wanted me for the rest of your life

It’s all memories to me now
I know where I messed up
I’m sorry I hurt you
I wish I could move back the hands of time
But I am powerless to the powers that be
What’s done is done

We parted ways for a while
And finally one day
I got a letter from you
Clear out of the blue
You said you were fine
And wanted to know about me
I’m glad we’re on speaking terms again

Now I pray for you
I pray for your safe return
Never again will I put you in harm’s way
I just hope you can see this
And see my true feelings for you
