Another Good Man Down
I tried my best, did everything I could
There were times when I thought I had gotten through
He was my best friend, but that didn’t matter anymore
What mattered were the opinions of others
He wasn’t too popular I guess that bothered him
But he had true friends, friends that cared about him
But he threw all of that away, for what
False people, and something you can buy from anyone
I knew this happened to people all the time
I never thought it would happen to my best friend
I never knew I would lose him…to drugs
To something that useless and destructive
I thought he was smarter, maybe he was
Maybe he wanted to, maybe he just didn’t care
But that didn’t stop me from caring, from trying
I had to keep trying, but I didn’t know it would be in vain
Maybe I didn’t try everything, but what else is there
I cannot control his life, only hope he does what’s right
But he didn’t, he was tripped, fell, and continues to fall
I tried to be his friend still, but it was all too much
He had become only a shell of what he was, what he could have been
I cannot be around him, but I’ll be there for him
Drugs have claimed another, another good man down.
