Ways of the Water

Contributed by Ethereal_Engine on Saturday, 26th June 2004 @ 12:55:13 PM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

We're at a playground with a stream running through, so small that we cannot hear its waters over the din of playing children. It is the beginning of Autumn, comfortably warm with the sticky days of summer behind us. Slowly we walk towards the stream and leave the children behind. Ever towards the east we go following the ways of the water. The music playing in our mind ever follows the scenery around us. Soon the music picks up and the water moves faster and becomes a river. It gets cold and ice chunks form in the water, beautiful but with a distinct sense of danger. It is now Winter, harsh yet invigorating. The waters start to taper off and it’s no longer cold, but warm and pleasant. The music has now slowed down to compliment the natural beauty of the landscape. Its now Spring and the scenery has moved to an open field of long grass and wheat on the countryside, but quickly changes direction once again to a more populated small city for awhile. Here the bustle of everyday life and the toil of busy souls can be seen all around. This time the music springs into life, beauty to the ears with a feeling of movement and productivity. Continuing our journey we soon leave the city following the stream always moving closer and closer to the east towards the ocean with gulls overhead. It is now Summer and upon a white sand beach we stop and think of the past of times when our movements weren't quite so chaotic. And it is here that our journey ends; staring off into the great ocean stretching out into eternity.

This is a bueatiful poem of nature and life. This is why I read so much poetry to find the unknown gem that springs forth and brings solace to the beat down soul. Thank you
