Margarita XLIV

Contributed by ramfire on Friday, 25th June 2004 @ 10:39:37 AM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

A coach stiff's ride drawn by a mule six team
can make you day long, mate, your body weak.
Bad road jars free back teeth or so can seem
Hard ride sure may cause pain, your bones to creak

Margarita was happy for two reasons - she was returning to her uncle's hacienda and her lover's face was ever before her. She smiled thinking of him. Dona Rose saw smile." Look how happy she's, Jose. See how she smiles. She thinks about horses and family. You think about horses and family, don't you, Margarita?" " Yes Mama. I think about loved ones." Huerra, sitting on coach seat next to her, spoke." There've been changes since you left, senorita." "Changes? In what way, senor?"
" Your uncle's made all gringo riders leave
San Laurius. Pueblo San Laurius Viejo no longer has cantina."" Why? What's happened?"" There was too much trouble - always fighting. Your uncle thought it prudent to close cantina. Californios and gringos don't get along with each other."Margarita shrugged shoulders unconcerned." It's good they're gone," she said. " We don't need them. My uncle did the right thing." " Yes, it's good thing. Everybody's happy except gringos." " I care that much for the gringos," shesaid snapping a front tooth against them.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
