Poetic Love

Contributed by dominique on Thursday, 24th June 2004 @ 06:37:14 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

When did you first plummet into poetry?
Submit to it wholly
Hold it almost holy
Your soul told me
That you cherished it as I do
And when it perishes you will to
As all star-crossed lovers do
Luckily in love you birthed anew
When did you first mutter
Your utterances to the world?
Stutter out of the gutter of
Dirty girls
Into the beauty of poetry unfurled
When did the both of you drink your
First wine and dine
On words still undefined
And intertwine minds
For the first time?
Did you discern what she was conceiving?
Could you turn hope into believing?
That poetry was Gods own intervening.
Love was what she named her child
The product of long nights gone wild
And promises of worthwhile.
I still recall answering poetry’s call
“Meet me at the café
With your back strait
And hips that sway
Wear that black dress
That shows what you lack less”
Anxiety caressed me violently
As I wondered in silently
You assaulted my eyes gently
Then your words met me
Consumed and let me
Digest you for myself
My chest was in hell
My heart trying to tell you
That I had fallen for her as well
And we became a poetic threesome
Of love words and freedom
The entire time poetry was seeing
You could speak the meaning of my being.
You read my pages chronologically.
Spelled me out alphabetically.
Your passion unapologetically
Made love to me poetically.
For the first time
I was left without words.

-do you think its possible to fall in love with someone having only read their poetry?

*jaw drops*

Wow, wow, and WOW. Going to have to make this short because I need to go and mention this poem in the Best Poem of the Day forum; it's that good.

I loved every word of this-- the rhymes within lines, the original rhyme scheme, the sheer uniqueness of it, the way the last line breaks from the style of the rest . . . I'm in awe, completely impressed, and an official fan. I'll be keeping an eye out for more of your poetry.

And in regards to the last line-- my vote is that it definitely is :).

still impressed,
Nora

Stunning, magnificent, raw, powerful . . . I am speechless for adjectives. This is beyond a simple comment. I am so sorry, it is not often I am speechless, but this is one of those times.

This is one of the best love poems I have ever come across. You have captured the feelings of falling in love with the poet and their poetry exceptionally. I have fallen into this web many times before. A manipulator of words will always have easy access to anyone heart. Awesome write. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Yes.

First there is the attraction to the writing style. Then the interest in the person who resides beneath the skin. Then it grows.

Awesome poem.
