Quivering breath in a darkened corner
Shivering, clutching bloody knees
Screaming for aid, weeping relentlessly
Dreaming now indistinguishable from waking
Mocking comfort of mother to child
Rocking slowly on trembling legs
Stench of death, foul in the air
Clenched teeth, throbbing pain
Beaten into doomed surrender
Sweeten thoughts of final release
Approaching rival, blade raised high
Encroaching in life’s flowing rhythm
Eyes constricted, longest wait
Cries restricted, lifeless silence.
