Pool of Apathy

Contributed by bobotheclown on Tuesday, 22nd June 2004 @ 03:05:28 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

As my blood coagulates in my veins
I drown in my pool of Apathy
And sip at this nothingness
As you hunt me like an animal
And strip me of all dignity
Cowed and hunted - eyes blank
As my broken arms trail behind me
And these tears, my last flimsy defense,
Water the shadows of my guilt
And the loneliness that continually
Leaves me bowed, beaten, and unwilling to raise my head
And as Apathy laughs at my failures
Drowning me as its detached face
Stares at me with no shadow of emotion
Just a robotic stare that probes my faults
As I slowly, but surely drown in my pool of Apathy
And scream as the inevitable black void closes in

I can't believe I've fallen this low
And watch, passivity making me blind
As Apathy steals my senses - so effortless
Crawling in this barren hinterland
Spawned from depression and my demons
And built upon the platform of decay and disgust
Lonely tears (fears) that carve my cheeks into bloody canyons
The only indication that I still live
(Despite wishing and praying otherwise),
But lacking the will and effort
I can only watch as I decay
And drown apathetic and depressed
So hollow as I inflict damage upon myself
My deadened stare broken by a brief smile
As my skin parts, upon my command,
And the Red Sea filling the gap
As Apathy laughs his job done (won)

I told you this was an awesome write last night.
I stand by that firmly.
This was just wicked and void of hope. It engulfes the reader in a lack of hopeless apathy for life.
Brilliant Joel.

*applauds*

I second everything Jeff said, though I wasn't lucky enough to get to see it last night :P.

This is beautiful . . . powerful . . . poignant . . . vivid . . . emotionally emotionless (yeah, that sounds crazy, but I think you understand what I mean by it).

You can't read it without getting drawn in, without feeling the hope seep away . . . amazing write, Joel.

Bless, and what hope I've got left is hoping that may *you* someday find your hope . . .

--Nora

Joel. I think I have to agree with jeff on this. Its a great poem, so good in fact it leaves me feeling a little worthless. Nevertheless, I love how you wrote it. :) Thanks for sharing friend.

wow!! you have my mouth wide open and Im screaming for more of your beautiful words. Filled with such grief and terror yet they taste so bitter sweet. Sadly I cant give you enough words to express how much I love this piece. It just tears me apart.

Kisses,
