The sound of you leaving

Contributed by reilt on Tuesday, 22nd June 2004 @ 02:20:37 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

I'll never forget the sound of you leaving
The cold, hard step
You turned and faded into black
A thick darkness setting us apart
And you were gone.

Your face is beautiful to me still
Sleeping, sometimes, safe
Inside my mind
Your image
Fresh and sacred
Oh you can steal me now
With just one look
And still become a dream for me
Even in the absence of you.

There come days, often thick and fast
Breathing aches into my bones for you
The softness of your lips
The comfort of your touch
The very sense of you as mine
And in those times
The hours that pass
I mourn a loss too great to understand
My comprehension abandons me
As you.

You took a choice into your own hands
Along with time
And on the outskirts of your thoughts
I stood
Awaiting your answer
Clinging to every hope I ever had
And placing all in you
And your return
My arms always wide and open
Wanting
Never to know
A void placed there by you.

Ah but look
How it has elapsed and you have come
Emerging From that darkness
With an old familiar sound
Just as quickly turning
Beneath the echo of your words
You leave me as you did then
To face the bleak and black alone
Vanished into the thin air of
A small regret and a huge relief
Of having shrugged off, let go, released
One more thing you could do without
And in doing so,
I am without too.

I'm brought this hurt now
Revealed in ypur truth
I learn honesty does not come
Bearing no weapons
Inflicting no wounds
And still I can forgive you
For the unforgiving nature of your
Inevitable yet unwelcome departure
Because that image clings
A simple memory of your smile
Til I can't but laugh you right back into my heart.

And despite causing pain
No-one can and no-one ever will
Love or hate you more
In the same breath
Or remember so
The resonance
As you departed with every part of me.
You,ve given more and taken so
As you walked away
With a cold, hard step
Trampling on mysoul
And I think you know
Oh but for all the wrongs you've done me
You're as much aware as I
That I'm feeling you still
Within a world
Now vacant
As you empty it
Silence it
And me.

Your poem really moved me so much so I can't think of anything intelligent to say.

I have felt the things mentioned in this poem. I have also had similiar thoughts that I thought would never pass....

This is just excellent and way beyond that even.
