testament

I want to make an eternal statement that will last forever
A worldwide commitment to my lover

Deliver roses to your door
Black, wilted roses, spiky with thorns
666 to show how much I love you.
Honey, this is the best day of your life
Step over the crushed petals to a note card that reads:

‘They say absence makes the heart grow fonder
I wonder, if I burned your house, would you love me more?
(Not that I ever would, of course)
Signed, yours devotedly,
Someone you adore x’

Turn on the news
Watch some crackpot lunatic shoot up the mall
Spraying bullets and blood up every wall
Fetch a vase for your flowers, tear your skin on a thorn
Beware, watch for my claws
(Not that I want to make you bleed, of course)

Deliver a bible to your door
Across all the pages, a red and angry scrawl
‘Thou shalt obey religion, *****, it is the law
Convert and destroy you the second you are born
Too scared to wait until you can talk
Ha, I defy you to think for yourself.’
(Not that I mean it, of course)

Turn on the radio
Hear some madman burn up buildings abroad
Attacks in every city, armies formed
Some guy playing god, some unstoppable force
Death count higher than you ever thought
(Not that it would ever include you, of course)

Deliver a package to your door
A square box that leaves a stain on the floor
Drips from the bottom leave you caught red handed –
My present, a heart, because you never had one before
(Not that I’d ever frame you for murder, of course)

Step out into the street
Blink those pretty eyes in the sunshine and smoke
Stare through the haze
Of a thousand dead bodies and a million fallen buildings
No one left alive, but me and you.

I stand, victorious.
The hero, this is my gift to you.
Blood runs down hands that hold the gun to my head
As I stare into your pretty eyes
A bang, you blink, and then I’m dead

This is my gift to you.
This is my statement, to show how much I love you.
This is my devotion, my cause
(Not that I’d ever want to hurt you, of course)

wow Lucie awesome poem very emotional, hate-filled, and dark, but aren;t those the best? I liked the images of the thousand dead bodies and a million fallen buildings. Once again a great poem.

I guess nothing says 'I love you' like a gunshot, eh? I loved reading this, it's very dark but very atmospheric.
