You smile

So I’m telling you a joke
You’re looking me in the eye
You know damn well it won’t be funny
I love that about you
You encourage the positive side of me
Because everything we do is to create a memory

You smile
You look down
Then you look away
I can guarantee that someone wants you today

So I’m recalling a painful memory
You listen silently to my every word
I know you don’t know what to say
But I don’t care
I can sense you listening to me
And you turn this into a loving memory

I smile
I look down
Then I look away
I feel so wanted today

So I’m staring straight ahead in silence lost in thought
You turn and quietly ask if I’m okay
The concern in your voice makes me smile
Because I know that even still everything will be alright eventually
It’s what you taught me, it will create a memory

I smile
You look down
Then you look away
I silently wish this memory will never fade away

You smile
I look down
Then I look away
You don’t know it but I felt my heart beat today
