growing older backwards

Journey beyond my edges to see what I can see
Lathered in spicy aromas of past indiscretions
Feeling potent when nobody questions me
Licking my lips I dare take one step closer
Always my undoing to push too far
Into the soft underbelly of strangers
Who don’t want poking and prying from the likes of me
No matter how much I protest I am kind and delightful company
Send me off on the end of a boot flying into the cellar
Despair awaits me, familiar with my abysmal poetry
Hands me pen and paper and bids me start writing
Humming and crying, crying and humming
Until the drone of one single thought becomes nothingness
Signifying the end of another chapter of me being extremely me
Pull the levers and lift me out of this hole and I’ll be good I promise
No more crap from me, Despair rolls her eyes in despair
She knows I’ll be back sooner or later, I say never - she smiles knowingly
Growing older backwards into honest mistakes and unlearning processes
Tangled in roots and verbs of coercion claiming to be self-evident truth
Knowing isn’t knowing anything at all but everything in its place
