To recall the greatness of Ascetics

Contributed by girish on Sunday, 20th June 2004 @ 10:05:55 AM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

Every rule of code requires as highest good
Those persons greatness, who true to their rule have stood
But to count these renouncers who have passed away
Will be a vain attempt, for the might of these holy men to say

Way of both worlds, they have weighed
To this take their stand in virtue`s robe arrayed
Stood with firmness to curb the five restrains
Act as seed for soil of situated plains

Their greatness, even Lord Indra will tell
Who is the lord of heaven`s, and where he dwell
They do those things that are hard to do
But for things hard in the mean, they eschew

To control the five restrains, as they know the way
The world remains submissive and follows their sway
For their might, their words are never in vain
And these secret words, shall to earth proclaim

Having scaled the virtue`s hill, and stood secure
For their wrath, it is hard even for an instant to endure
For all living beings, with seemly, adorned graciousness they live
And thus to virtue`s sons, the name of Ascetics, people give
