I sit here by your bedside
choking back my scalding tears
I sit here by your bedside
fighting down my wrenching fears
I sit here by your bedside
holding on to your cold, still hand
I sit here by your bedside
wondering why you broke your promise, and
I sit here by your bedside
hearing the sigh of your whispered breath
I sit here by your bedside
hoping that you won’t meet death.
