The Vodka

Contributed by Joker17 on Friday, 18th June 2004 @ 05:50:25 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

With shortness of breath I lie gasping
It’s hit me, all that I’ll be missing
She just left me, so very abruptly
And crushed me, and all of my wishing.

Last night, the letter said goodbye
Didn’t sink in, ‘till I woke today
Aroused drunken sleep in my eyes
I broke down, then drank it away.

The bottle, like I, hit the floor
We shattered together once more
I got back up, then fell right back down
The tears, and The Vodka still pour.

I can’t find my way out of this
Everything, is drowning in me
Alcohol is sure not the answer
But nothing else offers relief.

Keep drowning, and drinking away
Keep telling myself I’ll get through
A couple more hours to midnight
I might just survive to day two.

The nightfall brings such a silence
The liquor is all that will hold me
It’s the only thing I belong to
It promised to never leave me.

I kept thinking you wanted to try
You told me but it was a lie
You waited two months to tell me
Then out of the blue, said goodbye.

Must have been an easy decision
You made in the blink of an eye
You caught me off-guard, unaware
Again, I’m starting to cry.

You promised yourself if love found you
You’d never make that same mistake
Of letting it slip away from you
A promise to you, you did break.

So what was all the I miss you’s?
What were the feelings you showed?
Just lies, and games of deception?
Was I just some stop on your road?

This coffee I switched to is bitter
It explodes, as it smashes the wall
The Vodka will be my best friend now
We’ll drown together, and fall.

It’s been here with me since last night
It’s the only thing that I can keep
The Vodka, has kept it’s blurred promise
It’s with me, to put me to sleep.

Such a coincedence!

I read this today, looking through your archive for a stormchasing poem, and chanced upon this one. Naturally, I know its good because I went and advertised it in the Best Poem of the Day forum topic. If you want to know what i think about it, please refer to my other comment upon the original.

Thanks.

Joker, I am so glad you got past this. So many do not, as you know, and it does destroy futures. *****

Smiles,
Rita

It's quite moving.Especially when so many can relate. Clean and sober, things are hard to take, but not as bad as a vodka bottle in the hand. Know what I mean??? Moving write here! Thanks for reposting!
Angel always...godspeed...joni
