Cancer

Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I never knew the damage it could cause,
I watched you wilting away from life’s vase,
You looked so painfully thin,
As the cancer was eating you from within.

It took you 3 long weeks to die,
You were alone when you had your last sigh,
The fight was just to much for you,
You struggled on for as long as you could do.

I went to see you in the chapel of rest,
In pure death you were dressed,
They say the dead look like they’re asleep,
But you didn’t & that made us me weep.

We went to the funeral to say our last goodbyes,
Send you on your journey into the heavenly skies,
Went back to your house & I sat in your chair,
Cried like a baby because you weren’t there.

You were a music lover, my uncle Dave,
Death came & snatched you from beyond the grave,
You will eternally live on in our hearts,
Even though we are worlds apart.

Sometimes when I lay in my bed,
I can see you , not alive, but dead,
I know my memories should be of how you were,
I am haunted, I saw what damage cancer can incur.

Think not of a disease, but of a smile, and a favorite song....when we face what we face, we do like to be remembered for who we were before sickness humbles us so.

Think Happy Thoughts like the way you write, it always brings so many smiles.

Thank you for sharing.

I am sorry that you had to go through such a terrible thing. Try to think of it has your uncle did what he was meant to do in life, and now he is needed somewhere else. Best of luck to you!

By the way, this was a very well written poem!
