'I lied son. I lied and lied and lied.'
'About the WMDs that weren't there?'
'Yes my son. And people died and died and died.'
'Why did you tell SO many lies Daddy?'
'We ALL did son. Daddy Bush, Daddy Cheney and Daddy Powell too'
'Please can you just ANSWER me Daddy?'
'Sorry son. I don't want to lie to you too.'
'Just answer me…'
'I lied because America needed me to.'
Because a weak man needed me to say.
Because he wanted rid of Saddam.
Because there WAS no LEGAL way.'
'Were there no WMDs then Daddy?'
'Did you tell it all just to kill?'
Yes son, I'm sorry. Politicians lie.
'And my son… we always will…'
'And now all these naked prisoners
Attacked and abused…?'
'Yes son, it seems one thing IS true
We were ALL just being USED.'

Great poem. I'm not sure Euan would have the guts to ask his dad that, but who knows? Perhaps he'll knock back a few more and slur your poem out in No.10! lol.
I hear Saddam's only got two weeks before . . . before he's let off without charge. I might write something about that - If you don't first, that is. ;O) |
