That thin pane of glass
The one thing separating himself
From that violent highway
Crystal eyes piercing to the very heart
Defending champions
Within a conquered body
The light above, the only
Illumination to the dark stretch of road.
He watches those passing by
Meeting with every eye to and fro
Understanding their journey to meet
Or to leave, he has witnessed such
Arrivals and departures through his time
And he sits looking expectantly for his own,
For he wonders what lies beyond the light
Far into the darkness.

This remindes me of two things. The violent highway makes me think of the opening of Clive Barkers Books of Blood where the highway is that of the dead where they continously walk for all time. This highway exists on another plain and at certain points you can see the highway overlaying our own plain. It also makes me think of the anime series Haibane Renmei of the character Rekei who has been stuck in a kind of purgetory for too long and watches all her friends come and go while she stays behind. I like how this poem is like black and white, light and dark, or at least a part of it. Im not sure if this is ment to symoblize anything or not....but if it does it makes me think of Fooly Cooly. Being in a lighted/sheltered place till a certian point in life (childhood living with your parents), you meet people see them coming and going but eventually you have go out from under the light and into the unknown darkness (adulthood living on your own) |
