The Beauty of a Laceration

Beauty is found in lacerations.
The way the red flows so flawlessly
Mingling with the flow of despondency
Pulsating—resiliently with each heartbeat
Lingering within the walls of the wound.
For just a moment
Until the life overflows
To form rivers of scarlet
Flowing the extent of my forearm
Before gravity overcomes
One perfect drop falls to the floor,
Almost in slow motion
For I know that even as I spill all
That my body has struggled to create,
More is forged from deep within
Awaiting the day when it too
Shall know the pleasure of the fall.
