The Snowmen
A child’s pure smile, a robin’s sweet cry
In frosty morn with snow adorn
Stand single men, craft from love and ice
Betwixed, bewitched with eyes of purest coal
To stare unblinking, see through to soul
To watch the children frolic so
But come nigh sun and time to go
Once more melted so pure a fellow
Doomed a life so pure and mellow
Melt away with coming sun
Next year returneth, built as one
Is this the life we snowmen lead?
We fall, we die, we melt, we bleed!
And yet to sounds of ringing laughter
Whilst humans mock, as we melt faster
Well no! I say. This will not do
Our kindred prey to these buffoons!
I hear you hark, just what can we do?
So listen close and I’ll tell you.
My name is Blice, learn it well!
And together, we’ll send these humans straight to Hell!
So thusly spake and thricely marshaled
Blice rode forth in Christmas dead,
His frozen heart full of fiery passion
His plan was simple – death to warm ones
And they did fall, in hundreds all
An icy grip of snowman’s hand
From one Ice mans madness,
To devour the land
But, I hark the word, what of summer?
The sun, our savior, life giver once more!
Yet Blice’s ploy to outwit the sun
Lay dormant in man’s own mind
For three long months of frozen rule
Blice worked hard to keep his cool
And when at last, the sun did shine
Blice’s plot did come to mind
All the icemen wore suites of fridge
Frozen worriers, chilled all year
Immune to the suns turbent ire
And all did fall to Ice’s mire
The world was frozen, no life did stir
No birds did sing or laughter ring
A frozen heart, a frozen mind
And in Ice, all life was bind
Hope seemed lost, Blice did reign
He bound the land in frozen chains
No mighty army left to muster
Few humans left, full of bluster
Deep underground, snug in concrete lairs
They talked and talked and lost more hair
Their bellies bulged with frightful stress
As they sorted this ‘god-awful’ mess
Yet to nothing these did amount
And once more their money they did count
What’s this then, are we lost for sure?
Is all lust gone for life’s allure?
Surely, we can’t all be frozen
A hero from us must be chosen!
To march straight up to Blice’s Palace!
And put an end to Ice’s malice!
Where could one such being, so great reside?
Well, from Ice-cold bane our hero hides
Deep down near the earths molten core
She wakes from slumber, come save the world once more
She walks the stairs in inky blackness
Her eyes spin slowly in true bleak madness
For this last hero in which hope resides
Is slightly warped, her looks aside.
She seems just like a little girl
With bonnet, red satin cape and golden curls
For truth be told, this girl is old
Her chin juts forth, her features bold
She exists because we do dream,
And, as odd as this may seem
She is laughter, she is life
She is death and she is strife
She is all that we may imagine
She is more then we had bargained
Her golden curls and sickly smile
She looks no more then one sweet child
Yet to look into her deep set eyes
And see the darkness reflected thus
But without the imaginings of humans
She was nothing, and she knew it
So she deemed to battle on
Against the foes of man and all
And now she rose to battle Blice
Unto the death of all the ice
Where all man has failed
One to encompass all, a hero hailed;
Thus begot, stood proud on barren waste
Silence greets the new dawn, as she walks without haste
The slow indomitable march of Time
A frozen sun, a frozen smile
What powers has she? What secret force within?
She is the thought above the mind below
She is what we only dare to dream
She shows the creature that might live
Just what they might have been
She takes the minds of man and Ice
And twists them to her own device
She shows the mind just what it is
The ultimate truth, who you truly are
All the little lies told through the years
Torn away, your self laid bare
Every thought insincere, every word you held dear
Tis more then mortal bounds can hold
Madness of the mind for all who’ve told
No man or creature, or even Ice
No Lord or King or even Blice
And now she comes for one sole cause
Nor Gods nor men can give her pause
Blice sits on frozen throne, blissfully unaware
His coal eyes gleam with malicious chore,
Another warm blood dragged before his mercy
Should it live or should it die?
Surely, the race of Man has had its time
Now Ice covers all the land
The humans dealt deaths own hand
As sudden as a winters chill
She appears, more then silent thrill
Like summer thunder she burst upon
Like the very sun she duly shone
The Ice Men stood, then sat back down
The Ice Warriors saw themselves and what they had become
Yet Blice melteth not, he simply frowned
He looked true within his own,
And found no fault in voice nor thought
Nor action plain or lust begot
For he was Blice, simple and just
King of Ice does what he must
While the screams of madness echoed around
He simply sat still, and frowned.
‘A mighty creature from times of lore?’
‘A little girl without a past?
‘Ha, I know me for what I truly am’
‘No con’s of these will alter I’
‘For I am Blice, I am the Ice’
She spoke not in return, his thoughts did churn
Then he thought no more.
She made her move, she raised her cowl
And Blice did see the child within
The laugh, the smile, the beauty, the truth
The pain, the blood fresh spilt on virgin snow
He saw himself, a man made from Ice
A man of snow, with eyes of purest coal
No more, no less, craft from love and ice
All that in a moment encompassed,
He knew, nothing this good ever could last
He saw himself in a puddle of mud
First his legs, his breast, his heart
His eyes two lumps of simple coal
His mind no more then mush from snow.
And when the final toll did tell
The Sun burst through, all Ice did melt
Her mission through she went nigh hence
And humans came out to fore
They spoke of Ice and Blice no more
Yet decades past, this all was lore
And soon, and surely, Ice would rise once more.
