Momentarily Apart

Contributed by Silent-No-More on Friday, 11th June 2004 @ 10:43:37 PM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

With a wounded heart she reaches out to him
Laying her hands over forgotten skin
As the lovers must momentarily be apart
She stands alone, as he departs
Surrounded by the tears of so very many
She rations teardrops, not wasting any

With a wounded heart she reaches out to him
History matters little to her just then
For precious moments these lovers knew
But yet to her, they seem too few
Memories strong shall remain to remind
His heart, with her, he leaves behind

With a wounded heart she reaches out to him
Turning her thoughts to the moment when
The lovers’ souls will reunite once more
As eternity together they explore
Since a love so true they have known
In time, they shall no longer be alone

Yes, her heart and his will always be entwined. You produced probably one of the most beautiful poems about them I have read in the last few days. I know she would cherish it if she could read it. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful.

A sensitive, heartfelt tribute, not to the former First Lady but to the one left behind, the complementary partner left wounded and alone. In the midst of the sickly sweet eulogies over the past week, she held herself with a wonderful dignity, and said her goodbyes as one would expect for a couple so long together and still in love. A good write, and a great title.

truly the most touching, tasteful tribute to the former president and his wife. i've seen all this trivial spouting of platitudes on the media, when this poem is all that's needed.

Beautiful! They had an amazing love - the grief of parting must be great indeed.
A poem worthy of its subject. Well done!

It must have been a long journey for her. Surely, she lost him long ago. There is more hope now for them to be one again than there was when he lived. Beautifully written.

Wow, SNM, this is beautiful . . .

Just after he died, I saw a lot of poems about his death, but this is easily the best of the lot. It's as wonderfully done as the rest of your poetry, and I can't give more of a compliment than that :).

And I love, LOVE, the line about rationing teardrops.
