Indigent weeds beg for standing room in an already crowded garden
Homily cousins with nothing to endear them to the eye
Forlorn straggling members of the same family, long forgotten relations
Green leaves are all they have in common as they eschew my critical eye
Avoid the ripping up and being tossed aside, forced to find new ground again
Hearty roots and arrogance survive when delicate beauties wither on the vine
I smile at the honorable purple flowers, so lovingly tended
Reward me beautifully with their gently nodding heads as I pass by
Underneath the rich foliage the indigent weeds have moved in
I know they’re there in the shadows partaking of nutrients meant for others
Yet I do not have the heart to tear them up, toss them on the compost pile
So I pretend I do not see their errant vines in the shadows of my garden

Ya know...I see a depth to this that goes wayyy deeper than just a write about a garden. It's like this in life too if ya think about it, and your writes always make me think.
Simply an amazing write once again.
More roses for my daisy

They have struggled so long for survival, digging in deep and leeching what they can to live. They deserve a place in this world also. Tenacity has to count for something. LOL

I wrote something like this once...I think it was called Tangled, but as always, you have done it better. I love these lines best.
Underneath the rich foliage the indigent weeds have moved in
I know they’re there in the shadows partaking of nutrients meant for others

Your poem is visually beautiful. I must confess that I am a weed killer and smotherer. I put down weed barrier and I pull them by the handfuls. Now I feel as though I have been cruel.
Weeds can be very beautiful. Like taking a drive and seeing a field full of wild mustard. For as far as my eyes can see bright sun colored yellows. Although it is a weed it really is beautiful.
Weeds are tough and endure the harshest of conditions. Your poem says so much and I should maybe think before I pull again.
