Self Harm

Contributed by lanz on Wednesday, 9th June 2004 @ 11:25:35 PM in AEST
Topic: Suicide

Outside: dazzling white, bright, gleaming - clean
Inside: dark, depression spread like a malignant cancer - dirty

Sharp, ragged breath, steady determined hands
Glorious red rivers tracking their way up her arms
Now under the water, bubbles of red reaching the surface, bursting
With each burst, one pain, one grievance slowly slips away

Reality sliding in and out like bad TV reception
Past sufferings slipping, fading, gone
Gentle roar of the ocean in her is soothing, and comforting
Contentment washes over her, filling her with warmth, overcoming her senses

Pounding of the ocean becomes deafening, violent
So sleepy, so little energy, need to leave the warmth
Intense temptation to stay and let the waves wash over her, drown in her sea of comfort
Small and distant determination to leave that idyllic warmth, thirst for life

Painfully cold and unforgiving hard tiles
Towels building up in a pile, soaked with blood
Cold waves of realisation hit like bullets out of a gun; sharp, quick
Another chance at death narrowly missed, another two scars to decorate her wrist

Outside: White, plagued by red, imperfections, easier to bear
Inside: lighter, malignant darkness minimally recedes, hope, life…
