Cycle Of A Tree

Contributed by night_child on Wednesday, 9th June 2004 @ 08:03:25 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

This tree was once quite bare
I remember staring
Looking at it's contrast
Against the gloomy, gray
Mid-winter sky

It stayed like that for months
Naked with no leaves
Just standing there
For all the world to see

I doubt many took much notice
It's just another tree
There's lots of them around here
Why should this be any different

But slowly
The ice melted
The cold soon dissappeared
Blossoms started forming
Where once
There had been nothing

Now I can look out this gray window
I can see the tree
And it's huge bounty
Of green leaves

It won't stay this way for long
Winter never fails to come
I wish that I could stop
The bitter cold from taking over
Killing off the beauty
But some things cannot be stopped
It's just the way things are
Imprisoned in this cycle
Until the day of death

I liked the despair in the poem, but I wish you would have explored th mania involved in this disease - you must now that it's excess is as damaging as the bleakness of depression.

Good job - tough topic to grapple with.

That is an excellent analogy. I am sorry you have to deal with this affliction, but with proper medication and making sure you follow your med schedule it does make it much easier. I know it is tiring for you but necessary to deal with it in a mature manner and keep it at bay as much as possible. Be strong and know you can overcome it instead of it overcoming you.

Good luck,
Rita
